My passion for the outdoors goes back as far as I can remember when learning to fish with my father at our family cottage on the Kennebec River in Georgetown, Maine. Striped Bass were plentiful then, as were Flounder and Cod, but I will truly never forget my first trout, not for it's magnificent size of 8" or its pretty colors, but for my near frost bitten hands. As a young man, I taught myself to fly fish and enjoyed fishing the rivers and lakes of Maine. while attending North Yarmouth Academy and the University of Maine at Orono.
It was natural for me when I grew older to extend my love of the outdoors into creating works of art. My father, James Peacock, attended the Butura School of Art and is a successful bird carver and painter. After watching him for years, I began carving birds and fish myself. Soon I was sharpening my skills through experimentation and hard work, creating award winning sculptures.
I have since learned to appreciate the ancient art of Gyotaku in which I can tie my love of fishing and artistic talent together. I enjoy seeing the fish come to life, using advaced methods to recreate the fish's intrinsic beauty.
My works of art often include actual rubbings of tiny bait fish but can be as large as the 40" Northern Pike caught in Maine that I was recently commissioned to paint. I work with freshwater and saltwater fish alike, and it is a wonderful way to turn the catch into a work of art. I can be commissioned to create a work of art from any kind of fish and have many species available on hand. These can be seen at various art shows and galleries throughout Maine, NH, MA. and MD on Facebook and Instagram at Fish Art Maine.
